Syringes with Needles

The importance of vaccines.

Annual vaccinations are needed to protect your pet from several highly infectious and potentially fatal diseases. This visit also allows us to perform a thorough clinical examination in order to pick up any concurrent issues early.

There are many viruses and bacteria that can cause illness in our pets. However, there are some that can spread rapidly through a population, can cause lifelong problems, severe illness and can even be fatal. Thankfully, their prevalence is much lower due to the availability and uptake of vaccinations. Vaccinations prepare the immune system for potential contact with these infectious agents and significantly reduce the severity of illness and the likelihood of spread if a pet does contract the disease.

The vaccinations we offer at Phoenix Vets Loughborough include the following:

  • Core dog vaccinations - Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza and Leptospirosis

  • Optional dog vaccinations - Kennel Cough

  • Core cat vaccinations - Feline flu, Enteritis and Leukaemia virus

  • Core rabbit vaccinations - Myxomatosis, Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (RHD-1 and RHD-2)

  • Vaccinations for travelling cats and dogs - Rabies

Even though vaccinations are incredibly important to control these infectious diseases we do not wish to over-vaccinate. Following a primary course of injections, and the first annual booster, some vaccinations are not required every single year, as research has shown that immunity can be maintained with less frequent injections. We will always tailor our vaccination protocol to the needs of your pet and we are happy to discuss this at any time.
